Grammy Award-winning South African singer Tyla has removed Lagos from the itinerary of her global APOP World Tour, following intense social media backlash and calls for a boycott by Nigerian fans over renewed reports of xenophobic violence against Nigerians residing in South Africa.
A check on the singer’s official tour portal on Friday revealed that the Lagos performance, originally slated for December 22, was no longer listed.
While performances across Europe, North America, and South Africa remain intact, Nigeria has been completely excluded from the schedule.

The controversy intensified after public figure Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, threatened to mobilize his "Ratel Movement" to stop the concert in solidarity with victims of xenophobia. Meanwhile, political activist Omoyele Sowore cautioned against targeting artists for geopolitical conflicts.
"Tyla’s decision to remove Lagos from the tour schedule comes amid renewed concerns over the safety of Nigerians residing in South Africa, following reports of fresh xenophobic attacks and the deaths of Nigerian nationals, including Chika Ibe in Cape Town."
