Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has addressed speculation surrounding the future of national team icons Lionel Messi and Emiliano Martinez following their narrow defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.
Reports had suggested that both the talismanic captain and the golden glove-winning goalkeeper were considering their international futures after the tournament's conclusion.
Speaking with TyC Sports upon arriving back in Argentina, Scaloni responded to questions about potential retirements and managerial changes within the national setup.
He emphasized that after the intensity of a World Cup campaign, it is standard procedure for players and coaching staff to reflect on their continuation with the Albiceleste.
"After a tournament like this with normal things, I think one starts to rethink things. Until December, we are here. The most important thing about all this is how things happened.
The people knew how to understand that the team gave everything. The most important thing is always Argentina."
