The deep-seated institutional fractures within Nigeria's main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have blown wide open ahead of the 2027 general elections as rival power blocs engage in an intense war of words over the validity of party nomination forms, parallel candidate lists, and structural access to election authorities.
The brewing storm pits the powerful political faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against an Interim National Working Committee (NWC) structure led by Alhaji Tanimu Turaki (SAN).
Tensions reached a boiling point following a split 3–2 ruling delivered by the Supreme Court on April 30, which officially nullified the PDP National Convention originally held in Ibadan back in November 2025.
While the Board of Trustees (BoT) led by Chief Adolphus Wabara promptly reappointed Turaki to head a corrective interim leadership, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has maintained formal operational recognition and portal access codes for the Wike-aligned faction, led administratively by Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.
"Whatever they are doing will not, in any way, affect the chances of the PDP at the polls come 2027. We have consistently maintained that lies and propaganda have expiry dates.
This one is just like the convention they held... So, all of these they are doing is best described as the very many faces of 419, fraud. INEC should verify if these documents truly emanated from them. But if they did not, then criminal proceedings should be initiated," PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed stated during an exclusive media interview.
Responding aggressively to the heavy fraud allegations, the Turaki-led faction, speaking via its own designated Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, firmly vowed that the group would never back down from the legal dispute, asserting that their organizational activities are completely rooted in the rule of law.
Dismissing the immediate controversy surrounding digital server access codes, Ememobong countered that their parallel structure is strictly focused on rigorous candidate preparations and three highly definitive cases currently pending before federal courts.
As both camps continue to issue separate Expression of Interest and nomination forms to prospective political aspirants, the internal chaos threatens to severely undermine the umbrella party's stability ahead of the next national election cycle.
