A tragic wave of insecurity has swept through Sokoto State once again as heavily armed bandits assassinated the Chief Imam of Talluje village alongside two other residents during a brutal, coordinated onslaught in Bodinga Local Government Area.
The sophisticated attack, which reportedly lasted for nearly two hours, simultaneously targeted two farming communities situated within the Danchadi District of the local government.
Witnesses stated that the bandits stormed the area at approximately 4:00 p.m., shooting indiscriminately to cause mass panic before looting an unspecified number of cattle and livestock.
Local leaders expressed profound shock over the targeted nature of the violence, noting that this horrifying incident brings the total number of Islamic Chief Imams murdered by bandits in the local government area to three within the past few weeks alone.
"The attacks started around 4:00 p.m. and continued until about 6:00 p.m. The bandits killed the Chief Imam of Talluje and two other persons whose identities have yet to be confirmed," a distraught community leader in Danchadi told newsmen.
When contacted by reporters regarding the security breach and the tragic loss of the prominent religious leader, the Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, stated that the state headquarters had not yet been formally briefed on the operational details of the raid.
Local vigilante groups and community unions have renewed their calls to the federal government and military commands to deploy permanent motorized patrols to vulnerable rural corridors in Dodinga to halt the systematic targeting of community leaders.
