In a major political shakeup that changes the electoral calculus in Ogun State, the former Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Professor Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, has officially announced her defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The veteran politician and former Ogun State Commissioner for Health made her new party alignment public during an expansive courtesy visit hosted at her residence within the high-brow Obasanjo Hilltop estate in Abeokuta.
Addressing delegates from the Liberty Group—a prominent axis of the Jelili Kayode Amusan Concerned Volunteers network—Obasanjo-Bello stated that her decision to cross over to the opposition party was entirely driven by pure compassion, a deep-seated love for the people of her constituency, and a desire to scale up her wide-reaching grassroots philanthropic gestures.

"In fact, I like helping people and PDP as a party has always been a people-centred party, which further helps me to spread my philanthropic gesture to my constituents.
And, I promise to integrate all the groups into our platform as well as assure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of my total support in the coming general election," Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello declared.
The prominent medical professor openly criticized the ruling APC, asserting that the party's core structural governance models failed to align with her long-term socio-economic vision for the development of Ogun Central.
Speaking earlier at the political roundtable, the leader of the volunteer coalition, Mr. Kazeem Adedoyin, noted that their massive endorsement stems directly from the senator's landmark legislative achievements recorded between 2007 and 2011.
The group, which commands structures across critical local governments including Ifo, Ewekoro, Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Odeda, and Obafemi Owode, revealed that over 95 percent of their members are fully registered voters ready to pull their numerical weight to elect Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello and secure the governorship seat for Ladi Adebutu in the upcoming general elections.
