Police Foil Kidnap Attempt in Ogbaru as POS Operator Rescued

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers involved in separate abduction and armed robbery operations across the state.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who highlighted the breakthroughs as part of an ongoing security review and sustained offensive against violent crime.

Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Awkuzu arrested 32-year-old Okoye Ibegbunam Chukwuebuka John Bosco, alias "Bone," on July 15, 2026.

The suspect was apprehended during an investigation into a cross-border kidnapping case in Okpanam, Delta State. Police recovered a locally fabricated pistol, live ammunition, an axe, and a smartphone belonging to the victim.

"As part of the ongoing security review and sustained offensive against violent crimes, police operatives recorded significant breakthroughs by foiling kidnap plots and dismantling syndicate networks."

In a separate joint operation on July 16, RRS operatives and Ogbaru Divisional Police detectives intercepted three suspects—Chekwube Chukwu (32), Amarachukwu Nwobosi (34), and Sopuluchukwu Ifeakor (30)—in Iyiowa, Odekpe, while attempting to abduct a female POS operator.

Prompt action following a distress call led to the victim's rescue and the recovery of an operational Toyota Camry. Police confirmed the gang was also linked to a June 2026 abduction in Onitsha where another POS operator was robbed and forced to pay a ₦3.5m ransom.
