The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially confirmed that it recognizes only the candidates submitted by the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The electoral body clarified that the Mark-led faction has successfully uploaded 471 candidates on its portal following a Supreme Court ruling that affirmed its legitimacy.
INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna dispelled rumors that a rival faction led by Nafiu Gombe had gained unauthorized access codes to the commission's secure portal.
Haruna declared that the rival faction lacked any legal authority to submit candidates, as their appeals had been dismissed.
In response to these updates, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi released a statement calling on security agencies to investigate and prosecute Nafiu Gombe for allegedly forging documents to mislead the public.
Amidst the ongoing national executive feud, a recent Court of Appeal judgment raised questions after it upheld a lower court decision restraining INEC from recognizing certain state congresses organized by the Mark-led caretaker committee.
However, the ADC maintains that the court's split ruling concerns only internal state-level administrative structures and has absolutely no impact on the validity of national primaries through which the party’s 2027 candidates emerged.
