A fatal road accident has claimed the lives of nine young men from Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State who were traveling to Lagos in search of economic opportunities.
The crash occurred near Kainji in Niger State as the victims embarked on the long-distance journey to secure employment and support their families back home.
Representative Umar Yusuf Danmaje Yabo, who represents the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed deep grief over the tragedy, describing the loss as a major blow to the constituency and the nation.
He noted that the incident highlights the pressing economic challenges facing Nigerian youths and the risks associated with internal migration for work.

Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident took place along the Niger State transit corridor before the deceased were returned to their home community for burial.
Lawmakers and community leaders have called on road safety authorities to enforce stricter highway safety measures while urging governments at all levels to invest in localized skills acquisition and youth employment programs.
