In a major operational success against insurgent supply lines in the North-East, troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully intercepted a foreign drug courier smuggling massive logistics shipments to terrorist hideouts.
The suspect was neutralized during an intensive intelligence-driven vehicle search operation conducted on Thursday, July 9, 2026, along the critical Maiduguri–Monguno highway axis in Borno State.
The Acting Military Information Officer for the Theatre Command, Capt. Mohammed Goni, confirmed the arrest in an official press briefing on Friday.
He identified the arrested logistics agent as 48-year-old Mrs. Rachael Samuel, a citizen of the Republic of Chad hailing from Kelo in Chari-Baguirmi Province.
Investigators established that Samuel was actively transporting the prohibited contraband towards Kwatan Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area, a tactical transit route feeding the terrorist networks entrenched within the Lake Chad Islands.
A comprehensive inventory of the seized vehicle yielded dangerous narcotics valued at millions of naira.
The recovered haul contained seven compressed bundles of cannabis sativa weighing roughly 30 kilograms, two 10-litre containers of hydromercuric chloride—a lethal substance locally nicknamed “Suck and Die”—one carton containing 48 bottles of dry gin, and 61 bottles of assorted herbal alcoholic beverages.
Military intelligence reports indicate that insurgent groups consistently weaponize heavy intoxicants to artificially stimulate fighters, numb fear, and facilitate violent operations.
The suspect remains in military custody pending her formal handover to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution.
