The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully repelled a series of coordinated tactical onslaughts launched by armed bandit groups across Gummi, Talata Mafara, and Gusau Local Government Areas.
The defensive operations resulted in the rescue of multiple abducted citizens—including a state official with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—and the recovery of hundreds of rustled livestock.
The wave of criminality began when approximately 50 heavily armed bandits riding on motorcycles stormed communities within the Ruwan Bore District of Talata Mafara, opening fire sporadically and rustling cattle herds.

While a local woman sustained stray bullet injuries and was rushed to the General Hospital, the moving bandit cell advanced into Gummi LGA. There, they intercepted and abducted an INEC official, Aliyu Mohammed, who was on a joint assignment with the National Examinations Council (NECO) transporting sensitive examination scripts along the Gummi-Sokoto highway.
Command Spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar confirmed that police teams tracked down the official's abandoned Toyota Hilux vehicle at Tafkin Area, securing the vital exam papers for delivery.
Following an emergency distress signal from military personnel pinned down near Gando Forest—where local bandits had massed reinforcements from Kebbi and Sokoto states—the police deployed its specialized Violent Crime Response Unit.
Overpowered by the superior firepower of the joint security forces, the bandits fled deep into the bush with severe gunshot wounds, abandoning their captives. A separate rescue sweep at Kwanar Ganuwa in Gusau LGA successfully freed additional trapped motorists and local farmers.
