Confirming the emergency operational updates, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, disclosed that the initial flight—operated by domestic carrier Air Peace—is structurally positioned to airlift the first batch of approximately 270 cleared passengers from Johannesburg on Monday evening, June 8, 2026, pending the immediate receipt of diplomatic flight permits and aviation clearances.
The repatriation exercise was triggered by a series of aggressive public demonstrations across major South African metropolitan areas, where local protesters demanded the immediate exit of foreign nationals, violently targeting and looting commercial retail shops owned by the Nigerian diaspora community.
