Why is west african examinations council trending ?

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria is trending across major news outlets after releasing an urgent public disclaimer exposing a widespread institutional hoax.

The examination body caught the public's attention by officially disowning a fraudulent letter that had thrown school proprietors, principals, and parents into a state of panic.

The fake document—which featured a forged signature of the Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Test Administration, Mr. S.D. Kum—falsely claimed that WAEC had finalized arrangements for a "comprehensive deployment" of the Nigeria Police Force and the Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to every examination center nationwide starting June 1, 2026.

WAEC’s acting Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, clarified that no such directive exists, labeling the document the handiwork of mischief-makers aiming to disrupt the smooth conduct of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
