President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has captured intense national interest following a major policy announcement during his nationwide 2026 Democracy Day broadcast, upgrading and renaming the Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna.
The administrative directive is trending heavily because the federal facility has been formally converted into a specialized, full-fledged university.
The institution will now be officially known as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.
President Tinubu stated that the upgrade is a deliberate double-edged masterstroke designed to boost specialized, advanced engineering education within the solid minerals and petroleum sectors while structurally cementing the historical legacy of Nigeria’s national heroes.
