Arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command on a six-count criminal charge, the digital content creator pleaded not guilty to all counts.
While the court ultimately granted him bail, the magistrate attached highly stringent conditions to his release, requiring two substantial sureties who must each provide verified proof of a bank account balance totaling at least ₦700,000, alongside tax compliance certificates.
Furthermore, one surety must be a confirmed Lagos State civil servant, while the second must be a direct blood relative.
According to the official charge sheet, the prosecution detailed a malicious pattern of cyberbullying orchestrated by the defendant between February 8 and March 14, 2026.
The state prosecutors alleged that Hammed intentionally utilized his social media networks to manufacture and circulate deeply provocative, insulting, and defamatory content aimed at exposing the 26-year-old widow to public ridicule and emotional trauma following her husband's tragic passing on September 12, 2023.
Specifically, the police cited an offensive publication on February 8, 2026, where the defendant falsely told his followers that Omowunmi was planning to clandestinely flee the country to evade the ongoing investigation into Mohbad's death—an act punishable under the amended Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.
The prosecution further stated that the TikToker’s digital campaign escalated across subsequent weeks. On February 11, he published content insinuating that the widow refused to answer questions regarding allegations of marital infidelity during formal court proceedings, followed by a February 19 post falsely claiming that her private materials had leaked online.
By mid-March, Hammed reportedly posted derogatory videos alleging that the widow was spearheading a hidden agenda concerning her late husband’s estate.
Law enforcement authorities told the court that this aggressive digital trolling directly incited public hatred, culminating in a dangerous physical confrontation on March 15 when an angry mob publicly cornered and nearly assaulted the grieving widow.
The final count against the defendant explicitly accused him of circulating explicit, harmful imagery intended to humiliate and psychologically distress the victim.
