President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a stern, uncompromising warning to insurgent networks and criminal elements across the federation, declaring that they will find absolutely "no hiding place" on Nigerian soil.
The Commander-in-Chief handed down this warning on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, while officially congratulating the Armed Forces of Nigeria and coordinating intelligence agencies for executing a decisive, high-stakes tactical operation that led to the permanent neutralization of Ibrahim Bastuji, a feared and notorious bandit kingpin who had long terrorized communities across Kogi State and bordering North-Central territories.
In an official state communiqué signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded the bravery of the military operatives, stating that Bastuji's elimination deals a severe blow to the operational architecture of regional kidnapping cartels.
Simultaneously, the President celebrated the successful rescue of Hajiya Amina Abubakar, the widow of the late former Chief of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.).
Her safe liberation followed the tragic demise of her husband, who sadly passed away while being held hostage by bandits within the forest enclaves of Katsina State.
“I congratulate our gallant troops on this decisive milestone. Nigeria will not surrender any part of its territory to criminals," President Bola Tinubu asserted.
"Those who choose the path of violence against innocent citizens will find no hiding place.
This success reflects the renewed determination of our security forces to secure every inch of our land. The safe return of Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar is a source of relief to her family and to all Nigerians.”
Despite the federal government's celebratory tone regarding the twin operations, the opposition Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has kicked back aggressively, renewing its fierce criticisms of the administration's handling of national internal security.
In a sharply worded statement released in Abuja by the PRP National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, the party mourned the late Major General Abubakar, describing his death in terrorist captivity as an undeniable testament to structural governance failure.
The PRP argued that the administration's rhetoric remains completely detached from the harsh security realities faced daily by Nigerians, pointing to the ongoing month-long captivity of innocent nursery and primary school children in Oyo State as a clear indication that tactical operations must go beyond mere press releases.
