A tragic wave of mourning has hit the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the brutal murder of Sunday Adamu Hussaini, an ambitious 300-level university student who was stabbed to death by criminals masquerading as scrap scavengers.
The horrific incident occurred on Sunday morning, June 28, 2026, within the perimeter of the MD Abubakar Barracks (also known as the Dei Dei Police Barracks) in the Jibi area along the busy Potiskum-Maiduguri highway axis of Abuja.
According to local accounts and a heartbroken social media confirmation by the victim's uncle, Dan Sanni, the young man had just returned from a hopeful morning church service and decided to take a stroll to visit a close friend.
While taking photographs within the barracks vicinity using his newly acquired iPhone 16 smartphone, the armed suspects suddenly ambushed him at knife-point, demanding the high-end gadget.

A violent struggle ensued as Hussaini attempted to protect his property, during which the assailants mercilessly stabbed him in the chest before attempting to flee the scene.
"He went to morning service this Sunday with hope in his heart. He was meant to return to school tomorrow. Instead, a criminal disguised as a scavenger snatched his phone. Parents are shattered. A future is gone," the victim's uncle, Dan Sanni, lamented online.
Distressed onlookers and local residents rushed to rescue the bleeding student, quickly transporting him to a nearby medical facility, but he tragically succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Outraged by the sudden loss, an angry mob formed, tracking down one of the fleeing suspects and beating him to a pulp.
The FCT Police Command operatives intervened rapidly, firing tear gas canisters to disperse the vengeful crowd and secure custody of the battered suspect. While the command's spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, has not released an official administrative brief, family members have launched an online campaign demanding swift justice for the slain undergraduate.
