A commercial transport enforcement operation took a violent turn along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway after a commercial bus conductor heavily stabbed an active official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) using an industrial screwdriver.
The public safety incident manifested at the ever-busy Ile-Epo Market corridor, inward Abule-Egba, during a routine clearance operation initiated by a LASTMA patrol team to ease artificial gridlock.
According to a press statement released on Monday by LASTMA Spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, the enforcement team moved to impound a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number LSR 989 XG that was causing severe traffic obstruction.
The driver of the commercial vehicle vehemently resisted the lawful impounding procedures, causing a chaotic scene.

In a sudden escalation of the confrontation, the vehicle's conductor, identified as Lekan Olasunkanmi, armed himself with a screwdriver and launched a physical assault on one of the traffic management operatives, inflicting a deep stab wound.
"The driver of the commercial vehicle vehemently resisted lawful enforcement procedures. In a shocking escalation of events, the vehicle’s conductor armed himself with a screwdriver and violently attacked a LASTMA officer," LASTMA Spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq confirmed.
The wounded officer was immediately rushed by colleagues to a nearby emergency hospital where he received urgent medical stitching and is currently responding positively to clinical therapy.
The suspect was promptly apprehended by a combined team of law enforcement officers and transferred directly to the Abattoir Police Division for processing, where he allegedly confessed to unleashing the tool during the heat of the argument.
Reacting to the bloodshed, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki strongly condemned the recurring attacks on state personnel, reminding transport unions that the state government will enforce the strict penalties of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 against any driver or conductor who obstructs public order.
