Tragedy struck the quiet neighborhood of Edjeba Community in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State following the brutal murder of a young woman inside her boyfriend's residential apartment.
The horrific incident, which has thrown local residents into mourning and disbelief, reportedly occurred during the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
According to neighborhood accounts, the deceased woman was well-known within the vicinity as a regular, frequent visitor to the suspect's private residence located along Ajidi Street.
The alarm was raised when the landlord of the property was abruptly awakened in the dead of the night by distressing, agonizing screams echoing from the suspect's flat.
Sensing immediate danger, the vigilant landlord quickly alerted local security operatives, who responded promptly by deploying a dynamic team to the scene.
Upon forcing entry into the apartment, the police discovered the lifeless body of the young woman bearing severe physical injuries from an apparent violent assault.
The crime scene was immediately cordoned off for forensic examination, and the female victim's corpse was subsequently evacuated and deposited in a nearby mortuary for post-mortem analysis.
The suspect was immediately taken into police custody, where detectives are currently conducting rigorous interrogations to ascertain the underlying motive behind the gruesome killing.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, CSP Bright Edafe, assured the public that a meticulous investigation is underway to ensure justice is served.
Addressing viral social media speculations suggesting that the suspect is an internet fraudster (Yahoo Boy) who may have killed the victim for ritualistic purposes, the command's image-maker stated that there is currently no verified evidence to support those online claims.
