The Anambra State Police Command has officially detained a landlord in connection with the horrific and suspicious death of a 23-year-old nursing student, Chiamaka Chilaka, whose lifeless body was discovered inside her rented apartment in Uruezeani, Alor, within the Idemili South Local Government Area.
The deceased, a native of Isingu in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, was a dedicated National Diploma (ND) II student at the prestigious College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, before her tragic demise.
The devastating discovery came to light on Sunday afternoon shortly after a local church service, sparking widespread outrage and distress across social media platforms. A viral video captured a local cleric weeping uncontrollably over Chilaka’s body, shouting "My daughter, my daughter" in deep anguish.
Eyewitness accounts and neighborhood reports quickly alleged that the young student had been subjected to relentless, unreciprocated romantic advances from her landlord, with the duo reportedly spotted locked in a heated altercation just hours before her sudden passing.
“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed investigative officers to expedite action on the investigation into the reported suspected murder of a 23-year-old female student, whose lifeless body was discovered at her residence,” the police command stated on Thursday.
Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the primary suspect was taken into custody immediately after the case was officially escalated from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a discreet, high-level probe.
Crime scene operatives who inspected the room documented alarming physical evidence of foul play, noting severe marks of violence, extensive bloodstains, and a deep, sharp laceration on the victim’s thigh.
The body has since been transferred to a local mortuary facilities for preservation and an official autopsy to pinpoint the exact cause of death, while the CP urges members of the public to step forward with confidential tips.
