Pérez Challenges Barça Legal Action After Claiming Catalans 'Stolen' Titles

The fierce, multi-decade rivalry between Spain's two footballing superpowers has escalated into a high-stakes courtroom showdown, as FC Barcelona officially announced the initiation of legal proceedings against Real Madrid’s long-serving president, Florentino Pérez.

According to a formal corporate press release published by the Catalan club on Friday, June 12, 2026, Barça has filed a mandatory pre-lawsuit conciliation request in accordance with Article 205 of the Spanish Penal Code.

The legal maneuver serves as a mandatory precursor to filing a comprehensive criminal complaint for the crime of slander, directly targeting defamatory public statements delivered by the Los Blancos chief during a press conference on May 12 and a major media interview on May 13.

The legal warfare stems directly from explosive, high-profile comments where Pérez downplayed the integrity of Spanish football, directly alleging that Barcelona had systematically "stolen" domestic league titles from the capital club through institutional manipulation of referees, referencing the ongoing judicial investigation into the Negreira case.

In their official communication, Barcelona’s executive board clarified that while they hold no personal animosity toward Pérez, they are unyielding in their demand for judicial justice.

The club insisted that Pérez must formally retract his malicious and false claims against the Blaugrana brand; failure to satisfy the conciliation request will immediately prompt Barcelona to activate a full-scale criminal litigation campaign against the Real Madrid president, who had previously dared the club to sue him.
