The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued 11 individuals who were violently abducted from their agricultural properties by armed bandits in the Ogbido Community, located around the Iyahmo axis of Edo North.
The successful tactical operation was carried out late Thursday night following a rapid response by combined security forces to a critical distress call placed by local community members who witnessed the mass abduction.
In an official press statement released on Saturday, the Edo State Police Command's spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, detailed that the tactical mission was executed by operatives attached to the Iyahmo Division.
Led directly by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), the police forces collaborated closely with local vigilantes and indigenous hunters to launch an immediate tracking sweep into the thick forest reserves where the victims were being marched.
The search team successfully intercepted the criminal ring deep in the bush, triggering a fierce and prolonged gun duel.
"Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and tactical response of the operatives, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled into the forest," Police Spokesperson Eno Ikoedem confirmed.
The security forces successfully recovered nine adult males and two females entirely unhurt from the scene.
The rescued victims were identified as Braimah Destiny, Aruna Idris, Abudu Sharafadeem, Godwin Elizabeth, James Favour, Nonso Ana, Abdulilia Ozigi, Lambo James, Wasia Abdul, Lucky Emmanuel, and Suleman Aliyu.
Following their rescue at approximately 8:20 p.m., the victims were escorted to a nearby medical facility for comprehensive health evaluations and have since been formally reunited with their families, while intensive combing operations continue across the forest to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
