What was intended to be a deeply solemn and emotional night of remembrance quickly dissolved into a frustrating security nightmare for several high-profile Nollywood stars, as audacious pickpockets targeted the Service of Songs for the late actor Alex Ekubo.
The star-studded evening ceremony, held at The Monarch Event Centre in Lagos on Wednesday night, June 10, 2026, drew an expansive array of movie icons, social media personalities, and elite dignitaries who arrived dressed strictly in white.
However, the emotional weight of the gathering did not deter criminal elements from carrying out a series of swift thefts right in the middle of the crowd.
Among the prominent victims was reality TV star and actress Bamike Olawunmi, popularly known as Bambam, who took to social media to reveal that her smartphone was seamlessly lifted directly out of her handbag during the event.

Bambam disclosed that she immediately used tracking software to pinpoint the device to Nnamdi Azikiwe Street on Lagos Island, noting grimly that because it had stopped moving, it was likely already sold off or completely dismantled for spare parts by black-market fences.
Similarly, veteran actress Susan Peters announced the heartbreaking disappearance of her pristine white iPhone 16 Pro Max at the exact same venue.
Peters expressed profound shock that individuals could possess the heart to steal at such a mournful gathering, especially right after an impactful sermon delivered by prophetic minister Pastor Jerry Eze.
She explained that the high-end device runs on an international eSIM tied to her United States line—making it impossible to dial traditionally—and offered an urgent reward for its safe recovery.
Earlier during the wake, popular actor Stan Nze publicly decried the absolute lack of moral decency at the venue, revealing that over five phones had vanished within hours, leaving grieving colleagues questioning the character of some attendees.
