Thai law enforcement authorities have smashed a major transnational cybercrime syndicate, arresting six Nigerian nationals during a high-profile tactical raid on a luxury riverside condominium in Nonthaburi province.
The suspects are accused of orchestrating a highly organized romance-scam network that systematically defrauded unsuspecting victims into transferring substantial financial sums.
The coordinated sting operation, codenamed “Dark Room Crackdown,” was executed by tactical officers at a premium high-rise property near the Phra Nang Klao Bridge in the Bang Kraso area of Muang district.
Acting on search warrants issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court following intelligence reports regarding suspicious international financial transactions, officers forced entry into three separate rooms.

During the raid, one suspect desperately attempted to escape through a balcony, while another barricaded himself inside a bathroom to send frantic warning texts to accomplices.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Denis (23), Ejikeme (24), Ibekwe (29), Okorom (26), Nwosu (30), and Obielu (35). Investigators recovered 18 mobile phones, three laptop computers, and three bank books from the scene.
Digital forensics performed on the seized electronics uncovered extensive logs of romance-scam chat histories, pre-written manipulation scripts, and AI-generated profile pictures used to deceive targets.
Local media outlets, including Thai PBS World, reported that while the men entered Thailand on student visas, none attended classes or held legitimate jobs, despite their bank accounts showing massive cash deposits.
Furthermore, immigration checks revealed that five of the suspects had overstayed their visas by periods ranging from 695 to 1,560 days.
According to *The Nation Thailand*, the syndicate specialized in creating fake online identities on popular platforms such as Facebook Messenger, WeChat, TikTok, Line, and Zalo.
Posing as elite foreign professionals—including commercial pilots, military personnel, international lawyers, engineers, and medical doctors—they targeted older Thai women.
After cultivating romantic trust over time, the scammers would claim that an expensive overseas care parcel was trapped at customs, demanding urgent fee payments to secure its release.
All six suspects confessed to initial charges of membership in a secret society and immigration violations, and they face further cyber fraud charges as investigations continue.
