Operatives attached to the Ondo State Police Command, working in close coordination with local hunters, have successfully rescued 12 kidnapped travelers who were abducted by suspected gunmen in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The victims were intercepted while commuting in commercial vehicles along the Isua axis in the Akoko South-East Local Government Area of the state.
The crisis began at approximately 01:30 AM when a gang of heavily armed men violently ambushed two commercial Toyota Hummer buses.
The transit vehicles were conveying passengers from Benue State and were heading toward Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, when they were stopped along the highway.
The attackers forced several commuters out of the vehicles at gunpoint and marched them into the dense surrounding forest reserves.

Confirming the security operation to journalists, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abayomi Jimoh, stated that the command activated its emergency response protocols immediately upon receiving distress signals.
A combined team of tactical police squads and experienced local hunters filed into the bush, mounting severe operational pressure on the fleeing criminal cells.
"The sustained pressure mounted by the combined security team yielded significant success as twelve (12) kidnapped victims, including the drivers of the affected buses, were successfully rescued alive," PPRO Jimoh confirmed.
The rescued individuals are currently receiving clinical checkups and psychological evaluation at a state medical facility before being officially reunited with their respective families.
The PPRO assured the public that tactical teams remain inside the forest to rescue the remaining passengers and apprehend the perpetrators.
