The internal war within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Monday as the faction backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde ratified a 13-member caretaker committee.
The committee is led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), a move that directly challenges the leadership structure supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
During the 103rd NEC meeting in Abuja, the Makinde-led camp also released a controversial schedule for the 2027 elections.
The group fixed the cost of expression of interest and nomination forms at ₦100 million for the presidency and ₦40 million for governorship seats.
Sale of forms is slated to run from May 5 to May 13, 2026, with a special ratification convention fixed for May 30.
Governor Makinde maintained that the meeting was legally constituted by two-thirds of the NEC members, stating, “This is a battle for democracy and plurality in Nigeria’s democratic space. We will not give up.”
However, the Wike-backed faction quickly dismissed the gathering as an "unauthorized charade." Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed insisted that Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu remain the legitimate leaders of the party.
He argued that the Makinde camp’s actions violate the Electoral Act 2026 and a recent Supreme Court ruling.
According to Qubes Magazine, the PDP is now effectively running parallel administrative structures, leaving supporters confused as both sides claim control over the 2027 primary processes.
