The Oyo State Police Command has officially debunked wild rumors and misleading digital publications alleging that heavily armed bandits had launched tactical attacks across Ogbomoso, Ajaawa Town, and neighboring local jurisdictions.
Widespread panic gripped the ancient town of Ogbomoso on Monday morning following unverified reports alleging that a cell of operational bandits had breached regional borders and invaded the immediate vicinity of Are-Ago High School.
The sudden panic caused an abrupt halt to commercial transactions, with worried parents rushing to withdraw their children from various academic institutions across the affected municipal zones.
In an immediate tactical response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, deployed specialized surveillance, anti-cultism, and routine patrol teams to the academic facility to assess the situation and prevent any potential breakdown of law and order.

Upon physical arrival, field operatives engaged the school's principal, Mrs. Akanbi Ruth, who clarified that the alarm originated after a group of students observed a set of unfamiliar, stern-looking individuals loitering behind the school's perimeter fence.
Providing an exhaustive administrative breakdown of the actual events, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, revealed that the suspicious individuals were entirely peaceful actors involved in a routine civilian misunderstanding. Olayinka stated:
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the individuals involved were an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) attached to the Kwara State Command, Ilorin, alongside two other civilians who were found in a Toyota Venza SUV.
The individuals were questioned and explained that they had merely visited the lady among them in celebration of her birthday.
During the interaction, an altercation reportedly occurred between some teachers and the visitors, which inadvertently heightened suspicion within the school premises.
Consequently, some students began spreading unverified claims to neighbouring schools and surrounding communities, thereby escalating panic and tension across parts of Ogbomoso and Ajaawa Town before the actual facts of the incident were established.”
The Police Command categorically asserted that there was no security breach, hostile invasion, or bandit activity in the area, adding that visibility policing has since been aggressively intensified to restore ultimate confidence among residents. Academic, commercial, and social activities have fully resumed.
CP Olugbemiga issued a stern warning to internet users and digital publishers against the deliberate propagation of panic-inducing misinformation, declaring that individuals caught intentionally peddling unverified security alerts to spark public disorder will be tracked down, investigated, and prosecuted under the Cybercrimes Act.
