Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have scored a major victory against rural banditry after apprehending a suspected kidnapper at the exact moment he attempted to collect a N10 million ransom payment from a victim's family.
The high-stakes tactical operation took place within the dense bushes of Otefon Village, located in the Atiba Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, identified as Alhaji Bagudu, was violently abducted from his private home in Ilowa Village by a six-man armed gang.
The criminals subsequently marched him into the Otefon forest, where they held him hostage while establishing communication with his worried relatives to demand a massive cash payout for his freedom.

According to an official security briefing detailed by Qubes Magazine, the breakthrough was made possible through swift collaboration with grassroots security networks.
"Upon receipt of the intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbemiga Abimbola, immediately directed operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad (Oyo/Iseyin area), in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, to move into the area for a rescue and arrest operation," stated the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.
The tactical teams purposefully delayed their direct assault on the camp to ensure the hostage was released safely without sustaining any physical harm during the crossfire.
"Upon confirmation that the victim had regained his freedom unharmed, operatives advanced towards the location where the suspected kidnappers had assembled to receive the ransom," Ayanlade added.
On sighting the incoming security operatives, the criminal gang opened heavy fire, triggering a fierce gun duel. While several bandits escaped deeper into the forest with severe bullet wounds, the police successfully arrested one suspect, Mohammed Sanni.
An operational motorcycle, a mobile device, and other personal items were recovered at the scene for forensic profiling.
