The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to prominent human rights activist and popular social media commentator, Mr. Justice Chidiebere, widely known across digital spaces as “Justice Crack.” The bail was set at the sum of five million naira (₦5,000,000).
Presiding judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, delivered the ruling on the bail application on Monday morning, stipulating that the bail bond must be backed by one reliable surety in like sum.
The court held that the proposed surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 15 with verifiable proof of at least four years of residence within the court's jurisdiction.
Furthermore, the surety must present a letter of authentication from their immediate head of department, submit a three-month salary history, provide proof of pensionable employment, and deposit landed property documents at the court registry.

During the session, the prosecution team announced its readiness to proceed with the substantive trial, introducing its first star witness, Mr. Uruntu Douglas, an operative attached to the Department of State Services (DSS).
Douglas testified that the case files were originally compiled by the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps before being transferred to the secret police for forensic data extraction. Explaining how the security breach occurred, the witness stated:
"Soldiers had sent pictures to the defendant, who allegedly made videos from the images and posted them on social media without confirming the authenticity of the materials from military sources. Investigators extracted data from the defendant’s phone, including videos allegedly posted online, conversations between the defendant and some soldiers, chats with his godfather allegedly discussing protests, as well as excerpts from his social media pages."
Defense counsel, Barrister Sam Amadi, intercepted the proceedings by raising an official objection, informing the court that the defense team had not been formally served with copies of the intelligence reports and primary electronic materials sought to be tendered by the state.
The prosecution apologized for the administrative oversight, which it labeled an error of omission.
Consequently, Justice Abdulmalik admitted the comprehensive DSS intelligence ledger as Exhibit A, alongside the defendant's confiscated iPhone and a flash drive containing the controversial media files.
The case was subsequently adjourned until Monday, May 25, 2026, for the continuation of cross-examination.
