The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially commenced the implementation of a 30-day visa exemption policy for citizens of the Republic of Rwanda.
According to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the landmark policy shift is designed to strengthen long-standing diplomatic relations, stimulate mutual economic cooperation, and advance continental integration goals across Africa.
The operational rollout follows an official declaration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda, where he pledged a reciprocal travel arrangement to ease movement between both nations.
The policy mirrors an earlier visa-free gesture extended by the Rwandan government to visiting Nigerian passport holders.

According to an official directive, the new border protocol applies strictly to short-term stays.
“Rwandan nationals may enter Nigeria without a visa for a period not exceeding thirty (30) days for lawful purposes, including tourism, business, and official engagements,” confirmed the NIS Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinlabi Akinsola.
Immigration authorities have clarified that any Rwandan national intending to stay beyond the stipulated 30-day window must apply for and obtain the appropriate extension visa via the country’s global e-visa platform or through official Nigerian diplomatic missions abroad.
“All international entry points, including airports, land borders, and seaports, have been directed to commence immediate implementation of the policy in line with the Presidential directive,” Akinsola added, emphasizing that the initiative directly aligns with Nigeria's developmental goals under the Renewed Hope framework.
