The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has successfully raided the old site area of Bayero University Kano (BUK), leading to the arrest of six suspects involved in illicit drug activities.
The operation also resulted in the total dismantling of several drug joints that had become a nuisance to the academic community.
The raid, conducted under the leadership of Commander CN DY Lawal, was part of a special exercise tagged “Operation Sharar Mafaka.”
According to the command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Maigatari, the action was prompted by a formal complaint from the university management regarding the rising presence of drug dealers and users in the institution's precincts.
“This action demonstrates our commitment to ensuring a drug-free environment where students, staff and their families can live and work in safety,” Maigatari stated.
The NDLEA has warned that it will continue to occupy and dislodge drug hideouts near educational facilities to protect students from the dangers of substance abuse.
According to Qubes Magazine, the collaboration between security agencies and university authorities is part of a broader strategy to sanitize Kano State from the menace of drug trafficking.
The agency urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
