The legal battle to uncover the full truth behind the death of late Afrobeats star Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has taken a significant turn.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, has scheduled May 28, 2026, for the hearing of a suit seeking to compel the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to reopen the investigation.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/636/2026, was filed by the Registered Trustees of the Break the Silence Foundation.
It seeks an "order of mandamus" to force the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to conduct a more thorough and professional reinvestigation.
This follows persistent public outcry and allegations of foul play regarding the 27-year-old musician's passing in September 2023.
Justice Omotosho ordered that hearing notices be served on the NPF leadership to ensure their attendance.
The court previously granted the plaintiff leave to apply for an order compelling the police to invite all individuals last seen with the deceased for questioning.
Specifically mentioned in the court documents were Mohbad's wife, Omowumi Cynthia Aloba, and his father, Joseph Aloba.
