The Iranian judiciary has officially executed a citizen, Gholamreza Khani Shakarab, by hanging on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, after convicting him of high-level intelligence cooperation, espionage, and operating as a ringleader for Israel's Mossad spy agency.
The execution, which was finalized after the definitive death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court, marks the latest in a rapid string of security-related capital punishments following the regional military conflict involving Israel and the United States.
According to a state publication released by the judiciary’s official media arm, Mizan Online, Shakarab operated as an active asset manager for Israeli intelligence abroad, specializing in the internal recruitment of Iranian citizens to execute anti-security operations.
