The newly appointed National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has declared his unwavering commitment to legally unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 general elections, describing the current administration's policies as detrimental to the country's socio-economic future.
Speaking during a live political interview on Channels Television on Sunday, the veteran politician and former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum addressed widespread rumors suggesting he was covertly working to split opposition votes in favor of the presidency.
Baba-Ahmed explicitly clarified that his previous role as the Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Tinubu does not mean he is politically indebted to him.

He explained that he worked inside the administration to serve the country, rather than working for the personal interests of the president, before choosing to resign his position in April 2025 due to a clear lack of governance drive.
The PRP leader ruled out any possibility of working with the current administration ever again, asserting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has already done half the opposition's campaign work by allegedly impoverishing citizens and failing to curb insecurity. During the television broadcast, Baba-Ahmed stated:
“I worked in Tinubu’s administration, I am not working for him. I will work to get Tinubu out of place because I think he is bad news for Nigerian’s future. First, he has done half of our work. He has messed up this country.
He has made life miserable, more insecure and Nigerians are desperately unhappy and we know this for a fact. He knows it for a fact, unless they don’t tell him the truth.”
The opposition chairman further predicted that the APC is on the verge of a major political implosion due to its anti-democratic traditions, particularly its tendency to handpick electoral candidates and step on the constitutional rights of millions of party members during state primary elections.
While acknowledging that the PRP cannot single-handedly unseat the incumbent administration, Baba-Ahmed noted that his party is actively preparing to make a major contribution to a broader opposition coalition.
He urged opposition leaders to completely shun political selfishness, pull resources together, and present a formidable alternative candidate capable of restoring democratic traditions and economic stability across the country.
