The Federal Government of Nigeria has formally declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays across the federation to mark the celebration of this year's Eid al-Adha Islamic festival.
The formal declaration was made public in an official ministerial statement issued on Monday, May 25, in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
According to the official announcement, the dual-day public holiday reflects the administration's deep institutional respect for the rich spiritual heritage and faith of millions of Nigerian Muslims joining the global Islamic community to observe the sacred festivities.
