A horrific active shooter incident unfolded outside the Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD) on Monday, resulting in the deaths of three innocent men, including a dedicated security guard whose swift defensive actions prevented a catastrophic mass casualty event inside the facility.
The targeted assault occurred shortly before noon at the sprawling religious complex located in the Clairemont district of San Diego—the largest mosque in San Diego County, which houses the Bright Horizon Academy Islamic day school.
According to law enforcement briefs, the two suspected perpetrators—identified by federal intelligence sources as Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18—opened fire outside the building before fleeing the immediate scene in a private vehicle.
San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl confirmed that tactical units arrived on the scene within four minutes of receiving emergency 911 calls, discovering three adult victims already deceased in the front courtyard.
