Security operatives attached to the Edo State Police Command, working in close coordination with local hunters and community vigilantes, have successfully rescued a 57-year-old woman who was kidnapped by armed men in the state.
The successful rescue operation took place in the thick forests of Igbanke, following what authorities described as an aggressive, tactical bush-combing exercise.
According to an official security statement released on Tuesday by the command's spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the emergency arose after 18-year-old Chinedu George escaped from the clutches of the criminals and alerted the division.
The teenager reported that he and his mother, Mrs. Vivian George, were ambushed by suspected kidnappers while walking to their family farm at Ottah Community in Igbanke.

Upon receiving the distress report, police detectives immediately mobilized a joint rescue team consisting of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) and local hunters who familiarized themselves with the layout of the forest.
Detailing the violent confrontation that ensued between the rescue party and the criminal gang, ASP Ikoedem stated:
“On 16th May, 2026, at about 0945hrs, one Chinedu George reported that he was abducted with his mother, Mrs. Vivian George, aged 57 years, by suspected kidnappers while on their way to their farm at Ottah Community, Igbanke, but he managed to escape.
Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Division immediately mobilised detectives alongside members of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), and local hunters into the forest on a rescue operation.
The security team encountered the suspected kidnappers and engaged them in a gun duel. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and pressure mounted by the operatives, the suspects fled into the forest with gunshot injuries and abandoned the victim.”
The police spokesperson confirmed that Mrs. Vivian George was safely rescued without any injuries and has since been reunited with her family.
The Commissioner of Police for Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, highly praised the field operatives and the local hunting groups for their immense bravery and rapid response, while reiterating the Command's dedication to eradicating kidnapping and violent crimes through timely community-sourced intelligence.
