The Edo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime, arresting 55 suspected kidnappers and rescuing 58 victims between March and May 2026.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika presented the scorecard on Tuesday, highlighting a significant crackdown on syndicates operating in Edo Central and Edo North.
A key highlight of the operation was the rescue of a mother and her 14-year-old son from Irrua.

The police successfully tracked and arrested the notorious kingpin Yusuf Hassan, known as "Dogo Yellow," along with nine gang members.
Following the arrest, the state government demolished and confiscated the syndicate’s hideout near Ubiaja under anti-kidnapping laws.
According to Qubes Magazine, the command has also launched a specialized "Violent Crime Response Unit" (VCRU) to enhance its intelligence-led operations.
CP Agbonika noted that while successes are being recorded in rescuing victims of armed robbery and kidnapping, there is a "deeply concerning" rise in Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), with 23 suspects arrested for rape and defilement in the same period.
