The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially commenced the high-stakes national collation of results from its nationwide presidential shadow election, initiating the formal political process to select the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The complex data aggregation process is currently being staged under heavy security at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Center in Abuja, following the successful termination of voting exercises across the country.
In a structural shift away from the traditional, litigation-prone delegate-based voting models, the national leadership of the APC executed a direct primary system for this electoral cycle.
The shadow elections took place simultaneously within all 8,809 administrative wards across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Party administrators noted that the transition to direct primaries allowed all registered members of the party to cast ballots, thereby reinforcing internal party democracy and expanding grassroots participation in high-level candidate selection.
The conclusive phase of the data synthesis is being supervised by a specially appointed seven-member Presidential Primary Election Committee.
The heavyweight review panel is led by former Senate President, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, who serves as the Committee Chairman.
The panel includes highly influential political stakeholders such as Senator Ken Nnamani, Grace Titi Laoye-Ponle, Right Honorable Yakubu Dogara, Idris Wada, and Sanusi Musa, who functions as the Committee Secretary.
The political atmosphere inside the conference facility remains charged, with state governors, state-level party chairmen, and accredited ward returning officers actively arriving to present their documentation.
Because the state governors act as chief coordinators of the democratic exercise within their territorial jurisdictions, they are expected to take turns on the plenary stage to formally present certified result booklets to the Anyim-led panel for final verification.
