Ogun 2027: El-Rufai's Ally Otunba Jimi Lawal Emerges ADC Gubernorship Candidate

Otunba Jimi Lawal, a prominent political strategist and close ally of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has officially emerged as the governorship flagbearer for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections.

Lawal clinched a resounding victory at the party's internal primaries, scoring an overwhelming 19,428 votes to comfortably defeat his two primary rivals: Abiodun Collins Ogundipe, an artificial intelligence expert, who secured 5,775 votes, and Dr. Marie Abolaji Odusina, a United States-based medical practitioner, who polled 4,825 votes.

The official results were declared on Monday at the ADC State Secretariat in Abeokuta by the Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Election Committee, Barr. Adebimpe Adelowo.

He confirmed that the peaceful internal balloting process took place across all 236 political wards of the state and was closely monitored by field officers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Addressing recent internal administrative rumors, Adelowo firmly debunked reports claiming his removal as the National Organizing Secretary, citing specific provisions of Article 14 of the ADC Constitution which empower his office to coordinate field activities.

He declared the ADC as an indivisible, formidable grassroots machinery poised to mount a massive mobilization campaign to win the state's apex seat in the next election cycle.
