Senator Abdul Ningi Calls for Total Suspension of Politics Amid Rising Military Casualties
Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, has issued a passionate plea for the federal government to suspend political activities in eight high-risk states.
Speaking on AIT News on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the lawmaker argued that the nation should not be distracted by political campaigns while senior military officers and citizens are being killed by insurgents.
Ningi identified Borno, Plateau, Bauchi, Benue, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, and parts of Kano as critical frontline areas that require undivided security attention.
He lamented the recent deaths of a Brigadier General, a Colonel, and a Captain, stating that the constant "cycle of mourning" in the Senate is an inadequate response to the crisis.
“The government must stop acting as if the insecurity in other regions has no impact on the seat of power. We must prove to citizens that we can actually protect lives,” Ningi stated.
He concluded that pausing political business would demonstrate a genuine commitment to addressing the root causes of the insurgency and the displacement of millions.
