NYCN Probes Alleged Assault on Pastor and Wife During Delta Church Service

National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN investigation into Delta State church assault

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has launched a discreet investigation into the alleged assault of a cleric, Pastor Anthony Akasa, and his wife, Grace, during a service in Ughelli North, Delta State.

The incident, which involved uniformed members of the Royal Rangers, has sparked widespread outrage across social media.

The altercation reportedly stems from a leadership dispute and a bizarre witchcraft accusation against Mrs. Akasa after a powdery substance was found in the church vestry—a claim later debunked by the church cleaner.

Witnesses allege that the Royal Rangers, a paramilitary-style security unit, used tear gas and physical force against the couple following a disagreement over the pastor's tenure.

An NYCN executive stated that the council would not allow affiliate organizations to bring disgrace to the body.

Stakeholders are now calling for a peaceful resolution as the congregation remains divided over the cleric's leadership just four years before his retirement.
