The former Minister of Power and Steel is trending prominently as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presented former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke to testify as a key prosecution witness in Agunloye’s trial at the FCT High Court in Apo, Abuja.
Agunloye is facing seven amended counts bordering on official corruption, forgery, and disobedience to presidential directives over his 2003 award of the $6 billion Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Station contract to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited without budgetary backing or cabinet authorization.
The proceedings reached an abrupt deadlock when defense counsel strongly objected to Imoke taking the witness stand, arguing that the EFCC failed to serve them with a summary of his expected testimony.
Presiding judge Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie sustained the objection, ordering the EFCC to formally serve the defense team with Imoke's statement before he can testify.
