Tensions in the Middle East have reached a boiling point as Iran issued a stern warning to shut down the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.
The threat comes in response to a United States naval blockade on Iranian ports following the collapse of diplomatic talks in Pakistan earlier this week.
Ali Abdollahi, head of Iran’s military central command, declared on state television that the Islamic Republic will not tolerate a blockade that stifles its commercial shipping.
He warned that if the pressure persists, Iran’s armed forces will halt all exports and imports through the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Red Sea.
Despite the blockade, maritime tracking data and reports from the Tasnim News Agency indicate that some commercial vessels have continued to navigate the Strait of Hormuz over the last 24 hours.
However, the threat of a maritime shutdown poses a severe risk to global oil transit and international shipping stability.
