The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has successfully secured a 15-year prison sentence for Muhammad Maharazu, a 20-year-old drug suspect.
The conviction follows a violent attempt by Maharazu to evade arrest while in possession of illegal substances.
The judgment was delivered on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, by Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano.
Maharazu was arrested in February 2026 at Filin Idi, a notorious drug spot in the city. During the operation, the suspect was found with various illicit drugs, including Diazepam tablets.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Maharazu drew a long knife to attack officers during the chase. However, he was tactically disarmed by the operatives.
"We are grateful to the Federal High Court... for this judgment. It sends a clear message that no amount of threats or violence will deter our officers from carrying out their lawful mandate," stated DY Lawal, Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command.
The court ruled that the sentence would take effect immediately from the date of judgment, with no option of a fine provided for the convict.
