Former Kano Governor Ibrahim Shekarau Officially Resigns from PDP
Ibrahim Shekarau, the former Governor of Kano State, has officially tendered his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The announcement was made on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at his residence in Kano, following extensive consultations with his Shura committee and political supporters.
In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Giginyu Ward, Shekarau stated that his exit takes immediate effect.
The letter, which was also copied to the state and local government party structures, noted that the decision stems from a collective move by his political group to pursue their future in a different party.
“This decision follows wide and extensive deliberations within my political group to pursue our political career in a different political party,” Shekarau wrote.
The move marks another major shift in Kano's political landscape. Observers noted that Shekarau’s residence has already been decorated with APC posters, signaling an imminent formal return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This follows a recent invitation from APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, for the former two-term governor to rejoin the ruling party.
