The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the arrest of two candidates and a parent for allegedly using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and electronic tools to forge 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
According to a statement by JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, the suspects manipulated official SMS notifications to create fake high scores with the intent to deceive guardians and the public.
This development comes just as the board released the results for 632,788 candidates who sat for the exam on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
“Currently, two candidates and one parent are in custody for engaging in result falsification using AI and other electronic means,” Benjamin stated.
The board warned that result tampering is a serious criminal offense and cautioned candidates against falling for scams.
JAMB advised that the only legitimate way to check results is by sending "UTMERESULT" via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the registered SIM.
The board further clarified that while results are viewable via SMS, the printing of result slips is not yet available.
