Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Halts APC Defection Over Power-Sharing Dispute
The highly anticipated defection of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly collapsed.
The move fell through following a stalemate over the control of the party structure in the state.
Addressing journalists in Bauchi on Saturday, Sama’ila Burga, Chairman of the Turaki-led PDP faction, revealed that negotiations ended after the APC national leadership rejected a proposed 60/40 power-sharing formula.
The governor had requested 60% control of the party structure from the ward to the state level, a terms the APC refused to accommodate.
“This is how it has been done in other places where governors defected to APC. They rejected this formula and we have closed that discussion,” Burga explained.
Despite the collapse of the APC talks, the governor’s camp indicated they remain open to aligning with other political parties.
The move was initially facilitated by the national leadership of the APC and Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, who had visited Bauchi to persuade Mohammed to join the ruling party.
