Kwankwasiyya Movement Fires Back at Atiku, Groups Peter Obi and Kwankwaso as "Organic" Leaders
The Kwankwasiyya movement has hit back at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, dismissing his political influence as being dependent on party machinery rather than genuine mass appeal.
Speaking on TrustTV on Friday, April 17, 2026, the movement’s spokesperson, Honorable Abdulmuminu Melu, argued that Atiku’s past electoral successes were only possible due to elite consensus within the PDP.
The reaction follows Atiku's comments suggesting that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s influence is restricted to Kano State.
Melu countered this by highlighting that Kwankwaso’s 1.5 million votes in 2023 were "organic" because they were achieved under the NNPP, a relatively new platform.
"As it is today, it is only Peter Obi and my principal that have organic followers that are not induced by anything rather than the belief in their competencies," Melu stated.
The movement further claimed that Atiku’s relevance is fading, positioning him as a politician whose power relies on wealth and established governors rather than a loyal grassroots base.
The verbal exchange suggests a growing divide within Nigeria’s opposition coalition ahead of the next general election.
