Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has sparked a fresh debate regarding the global standing of Bruno Fernandes.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast on Wednesday, the current Monaco star argued that Fernandes’ world-class creativity is often overlooked because of United’s lack of consistent silverware.
Pogba insisted that if Fernandes were playing in a more dominant system—specifically naming rivals Manchester City—he would be a perennial top-three contender for the Ballon d’Or.
“You put him in [Manchester] City, he’s in the Ballon d’Or. When you don’t win, we don’t think about you,” Pogba remarked.
Fernandes is currently enjoying a historic season, registering 18 Premier League assists and nearing the all-time single-season record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Despite interest from the Saudi Pro League, the United captain remains committed to Old Trafford until 2027, continuing to lead the squad's pursuit of a return to the league's pinnacle.
