Death Toll Rises to 20 as Landmine Targets Farmers and Wood Loggers in Borno State
No fewer than 20 people, including fish farmers and wood loggers, were killed on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in a brutal Boko Haram ambush in Hambagda, located just a few kilometers from Gwoza, Borno State.
According to Daily Post, the incident began at 11:00 AM when a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists detonated along a common transit route.
Following the explosion, survivors were met with a hail of gunfire as terrorists opened fire on the helpless civilians.
The Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) has recovered 18 bodies so far, with several residents still unaccounted for.
This latest raid has sparked fresh fears among the farming community as the critical planting season approaches, highlighting the persistent threat of landmines in the North East.
